Ranthambore Travelog 2: An Oasis of Serenity

The Jungle View Resort is the perfect place to stay in Ranthambore. Just 10 minutes from the main gate of the Ranthambore National Park, off the main road, reached by a rough track, the property is surrounded by tall trees – we really feel we are in the middle of the jungle!

The tents, built on red sandstone platform are airy and comfortable. The inside of the tent is covered in white fabric printed with delicate motifs in orange and green, a typical Rajasthani design. The food, served in a circular room with a thatched roof, is simple and delicious.

Bamboo chairs outside the tent and on the lush green lawns invite us to sit and enjoy the sights and sounds of the jungle. As the sun goes down, we watch the cows and buffaloes amble home while a solitary langur darts across the field.

The Resort abounds with trees and flowers – all of them planted and nurtured with great love and care by Mr Hanuman, the gardener who has been there since the beginning. He proudly states that he has grown each plant and tree himself.  It’s bliss to have a morning cup of tea surrounded by the beauty and colors of the garden.

In the evening old-fashioned lanterns come alive, lighting the path to the lawn, making for a very picturesque setting.  Taking a walk after dinner our senses are overwhelmed by the intoxicating fragrance of the Raat ki Rani (Queen of the Night— the flowers bloom only at night, releasing a powerful, sweet perfume) and the Parijat trees (Nightflowering Jasmine — its flowers bloom through the night and shed themselves at daybreak).

The resort does offer WiFi connectivity, but when you are a holiday, it’s best to disconnect and enjoy the natural beauty around you!
